John Denver became a star with the folk-based songs he wrote, most of them set in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was raised in Roswell New Mexico. However, he fell in love Colorado. He eventually made his way to Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his new home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver was by far one of the top musicians who was a symbol of Colorado. Denver became the first Hall of Fame inductee in 2011. Denver is today the face of Colorado on the world stage. You meet people in other nations, for instance New Zealanders and ask them "I am originally from Colorado" then they immediately reply with "Oh John Denver. Brown clarified. Take Me Home Country Roads was one of Denver's top 10 hits following a performance with a small folk music bands. The song was written and recorded by Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the song for Johnny Cash but Denver recognized its potential when he first heard it. He recorded it just a few days following having performed on stage in Washington D.C. before an large crowd who were very appreciative.
